What are we learning this term?

Our topic books this half term are Meet the weather; Bog baby and We're going on an egg hunt.

 

Week 1: 

In Drawing Club we are focusing on Meet the weather, looking at the character on Monday, setting on Tuesday and adventures on Wednesday and Thursday. We will also be writing about the weather in Rainbow Grammar. 

We will be looking at why we have different weathers in Understand the World, weather diaries at Forest School and independence of dressing ourselves in PSED.

In Maths we will be recognising and ordering to 10 and begin counting on from a given number.

Phonics this week includes revisiting phase 3 sounds already taught (we have learned to /oo/).

 

Week 2: Continuing with Meet the Weather and Pancake day

In phonics we will be learning phase 3 sounds /ur/ /ow /oi/ and reading tricky word you.

In Rainbow Grammar we will start writing sentences using the /ai/ and /oo/ sounds.

In Maths we will be using 10 frames to count on from a given number and then working on doing this without them in the next lesson. In shape space and measure we will be making rain catchers to look at capacity. 

In Understanding the World we will look at comparing Spring in the UK to Spring in Africa and in PSED we will focus following instructions to make a Pancake.

 

Week 3 & 4: During these weeks we will start to focus on Bog Baby.

In Drawing Club we are focusing on Bog Baby, looking at the character on Monday, setting on Tuesday and adventures on Wednesday and Thursday. In Rainbow Grammar we will continue writing sentences focusing on feelings of the characters and then capital letters for names.

In phonics we will be learning /ear/ /air/ /er/ and reading tricky word they in week 3 and revising phase 3 in week 4.

In Maths we will be begin to add using a number line, building up to number bonds to 5 and 10. Shape space and measure will include positional language and money.

In Understanding the World we will look at the life cycle of a plant and comparisons of Bog Babys world to ours and then in PSED we will focus on sharing resources and a resilience challenge.

 

Week 5 & 6: During these weeks we will start to focus on We're going on an egg hunt.

We will be focusing on We're going on an egg hunt in Drawing Club; on Monday we have a character focus, Tuesday the setting and Wednesday and Thursday an adventure. In Rainbow Grammar we will write Easter cards and caption the egg.

In phonics we will continue with revisiting phase 3 - please practice reading and writing phase 3 tricky words at home.

In Maths we will begin subtraction in number and in shape space and measure we will look at patterns and 3D shapes.

In Understanding the World we will look at Mother's Day and the life cycle of a chick. In PSED we will begin to look at what is fair and expressing our feelings socially and emotionally.
