Welcome to Year 6 Rashford Class

Welcome to Rashford Class Year 6! The staff are myself (Mrs Daysh) and Mrs Ferry. We hope that you have had a lovely summer holiday and that you are raring to come back to school:-) We are very excited about next year and we hope that you are too!

You will find important information on the website and a summary of things that we are learning each week.

Our topic for the whole of the Summer term is ID, where we will look at what makes us us and how inheritance and evolution works. Our class text is 'Wonder' by R.J.Palacio. We will also be watching the film at some point.

Our topic for Spring 2 is 'Gallery Rebels', where we will look at a range of artists and their artwork. Our class text is 'Around the World in Eighty Days' by Jules Verne.

Our topic for Spring 1 is 'Frozen Kingdoms' where we will compare the Arctic Circle and Antarctica with other regions in the world. Our class text is 'Sky Song' by Abi Elphinstone.

Our topic for Autumn 2 is 'Hola Mexico' where we look at the life of the Mayans and life in modern Mexico. Our class text is 'Holes' by Louis Sachar and we will watch the film at some point.

Our first topic is 'A Child's War' which focuses on life during WW2 and our class texts are 'Goodnight Mr Tom' and 'In Flanders Fields.' We will watch 'Goodnight Mr Tom' at some point and use clips within our English.

PE days are on a TUESDAY and a FRIDAY (please note the change of day). Please come to school in PE kit on these days (a plain black or grey hoodie, a white t-shirt, plain joggers/shorts/leggings and trainers).

Spellings will be set on a Friday to be tested the following Thursday.

Homelearning will be set on a Friday, to be handed in the following Thursday. As we get closer and closer to SATs, the children will bring home more home-learning. It is really important that the children complete the tasks, as everything given will help to prepare them for SATs.

I will also put on Class Story ideas for Creative homelearning. The children can either bring in their homelearning or can take a photo and upload via Dojo- the children will receive Dojos for completing any of these tasks :-)

Please don't hesitate to contact me via Dojo if there is anything that you want to discuss.
