Please follow the link to our grammar songs and have fun singing along at home with your child :)
Welcome to Year 2's Class Page. We will be using this page to share all of our amazing work and exciting learning with everyone at home. We hope you will enjoy looking at all of our work. We are all very excited to share our achievements with you.
At the beginning of the term we came up with all of the things that we think make a good happy classroom that we want to learn in and created a Class Charter with all of our ideas. We made a display of our Class Charter so that everyone can see what we think is a great learning environment.
Bolsover Castle
For our topic this term we are learning all about Towers, Tunnels and Turrets. To help us write about our topic we visited Bolsover Castle at the start of the term. While we were at the castle we looked around at all of the old rooms and imagined what it would have looked like hundreds of years ago when people still lived there. We also looked at all of the features of the castle and we were able to see how the people who used to live in the castle would have defended the castle from people who were a threat.
Our New Topic

We would like to introduce you to our new Topic. The Topic is called Street Detectives.

We are going to be learning about our local community, looking at houses old and new and finding out how our streets have changed since our mums and dads were young. We are going to make maps and plans of the streets around us, and do some planning of our routes. We are going to find out how to make instructions, directions, adverts and learn rhymes all about our community from different times.

Museum Trip

To help us get a better understanding of what our topic was going to be about we visited Mansfield Museum. While we were there we learnt all about what thing were like back then and even had a chance to have a look at some pictures to see what Mansfield town would have looked like many years ago.

Local Walk
To help us get a further understanding within our topic we decided to take a short walk around the local area. While we were walking around we had a checklist with us so that when we spotted something we could tick it off to say that we had seen it. When we got back to school we looked at all of the streets from around the local area and tried to imagine what it wold have been like many years ago.
English, Maths and Topic Work. Week Beginning 23rd November 2015
New Topic For 2016!
Our new topic a music topic called Beat Band Boogie.

Boom, boom, boom parrup, bah-dum TISH! Her come the marching band! Left, right, left, right... Atten-SHUN!

Step in time to the beat: 1, 2, 3, 4, let's make sounds, high and low!

That sound is lound! that one's quiet... Shhhh, listen up! What can you hear? There are sounds all around. What's making each one?

Name all the instruments in the band and be part of a 'body orchestra'! Pat your knees, clap your hands, tap your feet, let's move to the beat.

Now march up the hill with the grand old Duke of York, beating your drum or shaking your shaker.

Then it's time to perform... Oh, what a performance! Your audience loves you, so let's take a bow!

'Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, charm to sadness and life to everything.'

New Topic for next Half Term!

Throw it, catch it, roll it, bounce it! BOING, BOING, BOING! Up and down and side to side, can you catch the bouncing ball?

Can you bounce too? Jump like a horse, leap like a frog or kick like a kangaroo! How many bounces can you do?

Design a game, bouncy or otherwise! Then write instructions for someone else to play it. Are the instructions clear enough? Can the players follow them? Who will score the highest?

Then let's create a Sporting Challenge Day for parents and carers... Can they hit it, roll it, win it?

Now let's relax... Breathe deeply and stretch those tired muscles. Yawn... All that bouncing must be making you tired!
