Welcome to Year 5's class page
The Y5 team are myself (Mrs Daysh), Mrs Ledger, Miss Simpson and Miss Draper. This page will share some of our learning from Y5 and I will also post newsletters and important information on here.
I hope that everyone has had a fantastic half term holiday. Our topic this half term is 'Time Traveller' where we will look at how humans change over time and food chains.
PE days are on a Monday and a Friday- there is no swimming. Spellings are given out on a Friday and are tested the following Thursday. The children will now receive 5 spellings that follow a spelling rule and 5 spellings that are topic-related words. The children will be expected to use these spellings within their independent writing.
The children will receive one piece of home-learning per week (given out on Friday) and should also complete one piece of creative home-learning per topic. Dojos will be awarded for this.
At the end of the topic, we will hold a class assembly, please look out for a confirmed date and time as soon as possible.
I hope that everyone has had an amazing Christmas holiday. I am looking forward to the rest of the year and know that we will continue to complete fantastic learning throughout the rest of or time together. Our topic this half term is 'Stargazers'. We will visit the National Space Centre towards the end of the half term and so please keep an eye out for more information. Our topic focuses on the Solar System, looking at the conditions on different planets, the cycle of the Moon and forces, including gravity. We will also look at Galileo Galilei and Isaac Newton and why their discoveries were important.
PE will be on a Tuesday and a Friday. Some children will continue to go swimming on a Tuesday, when the rest of the class have PE.
Spellings will be given out on a Friday and will be tested the following Thursday.
Home-learning is always given out on a Friday and needs to be handed in the following Wednesday.
I hope that everyone has had a fantastic summer break and I know that we are going to have a brilliant year together and achieve fantastic things. Our first topic is 'Pharaohs' and lasts for the entire Autumn term. We begin our topic with a visit from Partake theatre on Thursday 5th September and then we will investigate what life was like and what beliefs the Ancient Egyptians held. We will also compare modern Egypt with Britain.
