We are more than happy to help with any questions or queries so please feel free to come and speak to us. 


Key information


Home reading

Please aim to read daily with your child and write it in their planners. Reading can include PM books, library books and Bug Club. Remember, children can earn reading dojos for their home reading!! 


Home learning

In Year 2, children will be given weekly Maths or English every Friday. This is due in the following Wednesday. Children are also expected to complete one piece of topic home learning per half term.

Children will be given weekly spellings on a Friday and will be tested the following Wednesday.



Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday but please keep PE kits in through the week in case of any changes. Thank you

Welcome back to our final half term! Our next topic is 'Wriggle and Crawl'. We will be exploring mini beast habitats and life cycles. Please see our newsletter above for more information.

April 2019

Welcome back for our summer term! This half term our topic is 'The Scented Garden'. Please find our newsletter above for more information. We will be learning about planting seeds, life cycles and caring for plants. Towards the end of the half term, we will be visiting Pleasley Orchid to explore different plants.

February 2019


This half term, our topic is Muck, Mess and Mixtures!

Through our topic, children will be exploring foods from around the world, sculpting with clay and creating original prints.  Please see the newsletter above for more details smiley

Year 2 are keen to develop the outdoor areas for spring and summer, would appreciate any donations to set up our water sensory area. We are looking for:


Shells, rocks, pebbles, sticks, pine cones, jugs, bottles.

January 2019

Happy New Year to all! We hope that you've had a relaxing Christmas holiday. Our new topic is 'Land Ahoy'. Please see our half termly newsletter for more information.

21.1.19 - We had a visit from Anya, a lady who lived in Japan for 2 years! She explained some traditional Japanese traditions and showed us - Japanese currency, cutlery, lucky charms and books! Then we compared Japan to England.

15.1.19 We had a pirate visitor today! Children explored the seven seas to search for hidden treasure

Year 2 had a pirate party! We dressed up like pirates, danced like pirates and learnt some facts about pirates from the past!

November 2018


Welcome back to our second half term. Our new topic is 'Street Detectives'. Children will be finding out about the history of our local area.

This is the method that Year 2 use to add two two- digit numbers together. If there are more than 10 ones, we change the ones for a group of ten. This is the first step towards exchanging with the column addition method.

19.11.18 - a trip around the local area!

9.11.18 - Year 2 made a remembrance wreath and black out poems to remember our fallen heroes.

September 2018

Welcome back! We hope you've had a relaxing summer holiday and are as excited as us for the new school year. This half term our topic is 'Towers, Tunnels and Turrets.'


Key texts: The Tunnel by Anthony Brown and the traditional tale Rapunzel.

We are visiting Bolsover Castle on Wednesday 19th September


Also we have a class museum on 23rd October, 2:45pm - Family will be invited in so we can share our amazing learning this half term! I look forward to seeing you all frown
