Our Topic for the first half of the Summer term is called Scented Garden. The children will be learning about what plants need to survive, about the temperature and amount of light a plant needs and doing lots of planting themselves. We will be making lots of observations, identifying and classifying.
The children will use fieldwork to study the geography of the school and its grounds. We will embark upon a local walk to see what plants and flowers are growing and take photographs of them. We will discuss which plants can be dangerous and group them in different ways.
The children will make their own herb garden and plant pots of flowers to enhance our outside area.
18th April till 1st May
In Year 2 we will be working hard to prepare ourselves for our tests which begin on 16th May. In Maths we will be working on multiplication , division and fractions.
We will begin to video the children reading to assess their fluency and expression. We will also we undertaking lots of reading comprehension tasks.
In writing the children will be using expanded noun phrases and apostrophes to show possession eg Kate's The girl's

English We are learning to use apostrophes to show where some letters are missing when 2 words have been joined together eg I + will = I ' ll
We are also learning to write instructions .
Maths We are learning subtraction facts to 20, practicing adding a single digit number to a 2 digit number and about the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction.

We will be revisiting our learning about adjectives and adverbs and writing high quality sentences!

We will be writing letters and learning more about how to use speech marks in our writing to show speech so that we can complete a comic strip.

We will be learning how to add 2 digit numbers when the ones total 10 and more and about number bonds to 20 and related facts to 100.
