What are we learning this week?

24.6.19

 

Maths: we are moving on to complex partitioning. 

 

English: we are writing a setting description based on ' The Bee Movie '. 

 

Topic: we are investigating a bee life cycle !

Maths: we will be revisiting number bonds, looking at bonds to and within 20.

 

English: we are continuing our 2 week narrative on Never tickle a tiger!

 

Topic: we will be finding out some interesting facts about butterflies and looking at what makes habitats suitable for different mini beasts...!

Maths: We will be learning about position and direction - focusing on 1/4, 1/2/ 3/4 and full turns. We will also be finding out the difference between clockwise and anti-clockwise.

 

English: In English, we'll start a two week narrative based on the story 'Never tickle a tarantula'.

 

Topic: We will be finding out how different mini beasts survive!

Maths: We are continuing with measurements, looking at weight, length and capacity.

 

English: We will be writing flower fact files.

 

Topic: We will be creating some flower art and completing a flower hunt!

English: we are writing a persuasive letter about the importance of having flowers around Pleasley.

 

Topic: we'll be investigating how plants pollinate and will also be creating some flower art!

English - we're continuing our 2 week Jack and the beanstalk narrative.

 

Topic - we'll be finding out about the different parts of a plant and also checking up on our seeds from week 1!

Friday 29th March - trip day! Please ensure all letters have been handed in.

English: In English, we'll be writing our perfect polished pieces and writing a postcard to a famous pirate!

English: We are going to be writing a poem about a storm at sea!

English: We are reading 'The Pirates Next Door' and will be writing a description on a character from the book.

 

Topic: We'll be using our observational skills to draw a detailed pirate boat and we'll be going on a real pirate adventure with PartTake Theatre company!

7.1.19 HAPPY NEW YEAR!

 

Maths: We'll be telling the time with analogue clocks. In Year 2, children are expected to tell the time at: o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to the hour.

 

English: To help some pirate friends, we'll be creating a potion and writing a recipe!

 

Topic: We'll be making moving ship mechanisms and exploring the oceans of the world

 

Pirate party: Wednesday 9th January. Children are invited to come in to school in costume or own red/white or black clothes!

Maths: We'll be moving on to subtraction through concrete and pictorial representations.

 

English: We will be writing an advert to sell a house!

 

Topic: In topic, we'll be looking at ways to help keep our community clean and we'll also be taking a walk and observing the amount of traffic in our local area.

English: In English, Year 2 will continue to make up their 'A Walk In Pleasley' narratives. We'll also be writing a letter to the council...!

 

Topic: In topic, we'll be creating some artwork based around Pleasley Pit.

Maths: We are moving on to adding two two-digit numbers using a formal method. Children are expected to exchange ones for tens through exchanging.

 

English: As well as writing a perfect polished piece for the Jolly Postman, we'll be moving on to 'A Walk In London' book and adapting it to write our very own 'A Walk In Pleasley' narrative !

 

Topic: In topic we'll be visiting our local area (Monday 19th) to look at the features and making a tally chart. With the data that we collect, we will make graphs on Excel.
