What are we learning this week?

Week beginning 5th October 2020

 

English- This week we are creating our own dinosaur character description. 

 

Phonics- 

Y1: Are focusing on the sounds 'igh' and 'oa'.

 

Maths-

Y1: Are working on identifying and representing numbers to 10 on a numberline.   

Week beginning 28th September 2020

 

English- This week we are focusing on writing our own story called 'The Very Hungry Dinosaur' based on the traditional narrative 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. 

 

Phonics- 

Y1: Are working on 'ai' and 'ee'

 

Maths-

Y1: Are working on ordering numbers and objects.   

Week beginning 21st September 2020

 

English: This week we will be writing a diary entry as a very hungry dinosaur!

 

Spelling/Phonics - Y1 are working on 'qu' and 'zz'.

 

Maths - We will be looking at place value for the next few weeks - Y1 will be working on comparing numbers.

 

Topic - We will be continuing to learn about fossils: we will learn about reptiles, dinosaur clay eggs and investigating herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.

Week beginning 14th September 2020

 

English: This week we will be reading riddles and creating our own dinosaur riddle.

 

Spelling/Phonics - Y1 are working on 'ng.

 

Maths - We will be looking at place value for the next few weeks - Y1 will be working on counting forwards, backwards and finding one more and one less.

 

Topic - We will be continuing to learn about fossils: we will learn about Mary Anning, designing a dinosaur, researching dinosaurs on the ipad and completing a science experiment!

Week beginning 7th September 2020

 

English: This week we will make an egg discovery! We will be writing all about this discovery, trying to use capital letters, full stops and the conjunction 'and'. 

 

Spelling/ Phonics:  This week we are working on 'ch' and 'sh'.

 

Maths: We will be looking at place value for the next few weeks- starting at numbers to 10. 

 

Topic: We will be learning about fossils, creating fossil art and looking at how the world has changed since prehistoric times!
