# What are we learning this week?

Autumn 1

Week beginning 2.9.19:

- Maths - we are learning how to interpret data from pictograms and bar charts.

- English - we are writing instructions on how to make togas.

- Topic - we are locating Ancient Greece.

Week beginning 9.9.19

- Maths - we are learning to read and write numbers up to 1000.

- English - we are writing character descriptions from Hercules.

- Topic - we are learning about the story of Icarus and making our own wings.

Week beginning 16.9.19

- Maths - we are learning how to add in powers of 10.

- English - we are writing newspaper reports.

- Topic - we will be learning about the story of Theseus and the minotaur.

Week beginning 23.9.19

- Maths - we are learning how to order and compare numbers beyond 1000.

- English - we will be writing a setting description of the underworld.

- Topic - we are learning about the Trojan war.

Week beginning 30.9.19

- Maths - we are learning how to round to the nearest 10 and 100.

- English - we will be writing our story based on Hercules.

- Topic - we will be designing a Greek vase.

Week beginning 7.10.19

- Maths - we are learning how to solve problems involving place value.

- English - we will be writing a postcard from Athens!

- Topic - we will be learning about the Olympics!

Week beginning 14.10.19

- Maths - we will be consolidating our learning on place value.

- English - we will be having a go at a bug club reading test.

- Topic - we will be learning how to write using the Greek alphabet.

Autumn 2

Week beginning 04.11.19

- Maths - We are learning to sequence negative numbers.

- English -  We are writing a diary entry in the style of a cave person from the Stone Age.

-Topic  - We are meeting a cave person and learning about the discovery of fire.

Week beginning 11.11.19

- Maths - We are learning to add 3-digit numbers without carrying over using the column method.

- English - We are writing a recount about our trip to Creswell Crags using time connectives.

- Topic - We are exploring how cave people lived  in the Stone Age by visiting Creswell Crags. We are learning about Stone Age tools and Beasts.

Week beginning 18.11.19

- Maths - We are learning to add 3-digit numbers including carrying over using the column method.

- English - We are writing a character description, using relative clauses, based on 'The Stone Age boy'.

- Topic - We are creating cave paintings and learning about Skara Brae.

Week beginning 25.11.19

- Maths - We are consolidating our knowledge of column addition.

- English - We are writing a setting description based on the Stone Age Boy.

- Topic - We are creating our own fossils and learning how farming has developed.

Week beginning 2.12.19

Maths: We are learning to subtract 3 digit numbers using the column method.

English: We are writing a narrative based on the Stone Age boy.

Topic: We are creating stone art and learning about different settlements.

Week beginning 9.12.19

Maths: We are practising subtracting 3 digit numbers using the column method.

English: We are evaluating Christmas adverts and planning our own Christmas advert in groups.

Topic: We are learning about Stonehenge. We are going to construct Stonehenge using biscuits.

Week beginning 16.12.19

CHRISTMAS COMES TO FARMILO!

We are enjoying lots of Christmas crafts by making Christmas cards, ornaments and calendars. We are performing our Christmas performance 'Christmas Stars'. We are taking part in the Christmas carol service on 19.12.19

English: We are filming and showcasing our Christmas adverts.

Spring 1

Week beginning 6.01.2020

English: We are creating our own super hero and writing a character description.

Maths: We are practising using addition and subtraction written methods.

Topic: We are thinking about who inspires us and what qualities make a hero. We are creating our own super hero music using iPads.

Week beginning 13.01.2020

English: We are using speech to create our own comic strips.

Maths: We are learning to add and subtract using money.

Topic: We are creating our own pop-up mechanisms and learning about real life heroes and villains.

Week beginning 20.01.2020

English: We are writing a narrative based on our superhero.

Maths: We are learning to multiply using written methods.

Topic: We are learning about different forces and motion.

Week beginning 27.01.20

English: We are writing a biography of a famous inspirational person using relative clauses.

Maths:  We are consolidating our understanding of  multiplying using the column method.

Topic: We are learning about friction and magnets, and creating our own pop art in the style of Roy Lichtenstein.

Week beginning 03.02.20

English: We are learning to write a persuasive text using conditional sentences.

Maths:  We are learning to divide using written methods.

Topic: We are learning about different charities and organisations, creating pop up mechanisms using levers and creating our own villainous music.

Week beginning 10.02.20

English: We are writing an acrostic poem about our superhero.

Maths:  We are consolidating our understanding of division and multiplication.

Topic: We are creating superhero masks and practising for our 'Heroes and Villains' class assembly.

Spring 2

Week beginning 24.02.20

English: We are learning to write instructions using imperative verbs and 'when' time fronted adverbials.

Maths: We are learning to find fractions of amounts.

Topic: We are learning about the bones in the human skeleton, the purposes of a skeleton and the different types of skeletons. We will be comparing different animal skeletons.

Week beginning 02.03.20

English: We are learning to write a explanation of an animal using paragraphs and subheadings.

Maths: We are learning to find and compare equivalent fractions.

Topic: We are learning about food chains and webs. We are going to be looking at different animal diets in our Forest School lesson.

Week beginning 09.03.20

English: We are writing a setting description from the Jungle book.

Maths: We are learning to add and subtract fractions.

Topic: We are creating a collage using natural resources. We are learning about how environments can change.

Week beginning 16.03.20

We are going on a trip to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park on Thursday 19th March 2020.

English: We are writing a recount of our trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

Maths: We are learning to multiply and divide by 10.

Topic: We are learning about different habitats and how animals adapt.
