# What are we learning this week?

Week beginning 16th March

English - We will be writing a setting description based on the book, The Tunnel.

Maths - We will be moving on to fractions, starting with recognising and naming fractions of a shape:

Y1:      1/2     1/4

Topic - For topic, we are building our own catapults and will start to add features to our 3D castle models.

Week beginning 9th March

English - We are writing our own story based on Three Little Pigs!

Maths - Y1 are continuing with repeated addition and multiplication

Topic - For topic we are looking at a famous engineer from the past, continuing our 3D castles and using a map to find different castles around the UK!

Week beginning 2nd March

English - We are writing a book review

Maths - We are looking at repeated addition and multiplication

Phonics -

Y1 will be looking split digraph i_e and o_e.

Topic - For topic we are looking at the history of castles and starting to create our 3D castle models!

Week beginning 24th February 2020

English - We are writing a character description about Rapunzel.

Maths - Y1 are learning about money; what the different coins mean and adding within 20 using coins.

Phonics - Y1 are revising a-e and e-e.

Topic - For topic we will be walking around Pleasley to find high points where Rapunzel may have lived in her tower.

Week beginning 10th February 2020

English - We are learning about an artist and writing a non-chronological report.

Maths - Y1 are continuing to learn about number bonds to 20.

Phonics - Y1 are revising a-e and i-e.

Topic - For topic we will be making Kandinsky inspired art and learning about e-safety for Safer Internet Day!

Week beginning 3rd February 2020

English - We are moving onto the story 'The Day the Crayon's Quit' and writing a letter back as Duncan.

Maths - Y1 will be continuing to develop their understanding of number bonds to 20.

Phonics - Y1 - /au/ and /ue/

Topic - For topic we be making Pablo Picasso inspired art and our Patron of Reading, Gareth Baker, will visit us!

Week beginning 27th January 2020

English - We are writing a poem about George's medicine!

Maths - We will be moving on to repeated addition and multiplication

Phonics - Y2 will be looking at the spelling pattern - change y for an i and add es!

Y1 - /oe/ and /ph/

Topic - For topic we will be tasting dishes from around the world and creating a soundtrack for George's medicine making!

Week beginning 20th January

English - We are writing a diary entry for George's marvelous medicine!

Maths - We will be looking at subtraction  within 100.

Phonics - Y1 phonics rule /wh/ and /ay/

Topic - For topic we will be making clay faces of George's Grandma! We will also be creating sketches using different material. In forest school, we are using natural materials to create images of Alice and George.

This week we also have a workshop for road safety.

Week beginning 13th January 2020

English - We are continuing to focus on Alice in Wonderland and will be writing a setting description from the story!

Maths - We will be looking at subtraction  within 10.

Phonics - We will be looking at /oy/ and /ou/ spellings.

Topic - For topic we will be learning about the famous artist Carl Warner! We will be learning about his work and also using his ideas to create our own food collages! For Forest School we will be attending our outdoor forest school area within school and creating a picture of Alice in Wonderland using natural resources! Please ensure your child has their outdoor clothes in a bag on Tuesday so they can participate in this as we may get muddy!

Week beginning 6th January 2019

English - We will be looking at commands and writing instructions about how to make the perfect tea party!

Maths - We will be looking at o'clock and half past.

Phonics - We will be looking at /ie/ and /ea/ spellings.

Topic - We will be having our Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter's tea party! We will also be learning about the primary colours, mixing them to create other colours and making art based on Roy Lichenstein's art! We will also have our first forest school session and be mixing mud with water and observing the changes.
