Friday 3rd July

Happy Friday everyone; I can't believe another week has passed by! Please find the learning for today below. Don't forget to click here for the French games for this week and here for the PSHE link. There is also the activity topic web, which you can find above and can choose an activity from. As it is Friday, there is also a Friday theme, all about the country Canada. Click here to check it out!

Maths for today is completing a full arithmetic test, which can be found below. Here are some tips to help you:

1) When adding and subtractions with a different denominator, you must make them equivalent.

2) When multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000, move the digits, either to the left or the right.

3) When finding fractions of amounts, divide the whole number by the denominator and then multiply the answer by the numerator.

4) A little (flying) 3 means multiply the number by itself 3 times.

5) When multiplying a fraction by a whole number, multiply the numerator by the whole number and then see if you can change the answer to a mixed number.

Give yourself 30 minutes to complete and then let me know your score. I can't wait to see your scores!

English for today is the spelling test, which can be found below. There is also a short grammar quiz, which can be accessed here. I have also attached this as a document below and there is an answer document too :-)

Spelling Test- 3-7-20

Thursday 2nd July

Good morning everyone! Please find the learning for today below. Don't forget to click here for the French games for this week and here for the PSHE link. There is also the activity topic web, which you can find above and can choose an activity from.

Maths for today is calculating angles around a point. Please click here for the video (the title will say Lesson 4- Calculating angles around a point) and find the worksheet below. There is also a link to another video below if you need more help.

English for today is carrying on from yesterday. I would like you to make a sign for your roller coaster, which includes safety instructions and a description of what it is like to ride the roller coaster. This is your Big Write for this week, so please add as much detail as you can. I would love for you to use adverbials and relative clauses too!

Here is an example of what you might write to describe the experience of your ride-

This ride will make you as though you are a bird soaring through the sky. Its twists and turns are like a spiraliser. Your body will be rattled from side to side, like beads inside a maraca. This experience will be like nothing you have ever experienced before. Please join the queue and get ready for the ride of your life!

Wednesday 1st July

Happy July everyone; I can't believe I am saying that! Please find the activities for today below. Don't forget to click here for the French games for this week and here for the PSHE link. There is also the activity topic web, which you can find above and can choose an activity from.

Maths for today is calculating angles on a straight line. Please click here for the video and find the worksheet below. There is also a link to another video below if you need more help.

English for today is to consider the experience of a rider on a roller coaster. What will they see? Smell? Hear? What will happen to them physically? Will their head rattle against the restraint? I'd like you to think about using similes to describe the experience. A simile compares one thing to another, eg. the engines roared like a lion defending its pride. There are two sheets today, one is to create the phrases and the other is for a little bit of fun :-) and both can be found below.

Tuesday 30th June

Happy Tuesday everyone! Please click here for the French games for this week and here for the PSHE link. Don't forget to choose an activity from the topic web, which can be found above. I am very impressed with the children who have returned to school- we are completing lots of fantastic learning activities, but please bear with me, as technology is not my friend! I will find out a way to get the children's learning onto Dojo by the end of the week and if not, I will think of an alternative. Thank you for all of your ongoing support :-)

Maths for today is rounding to estimate and approximate. Remember when rounding- 1,2,3,4 to the floor, 5,6,7,8,9 to the sky. Please click here for the video and find the worksheet below.

English for this week will be designing and writing our own signs to explain the dangers of a ride and what the experience will feel like. Today, can you find alternative word choices for these words; caution, warning, safety, danger, authorised, prohibited and forbidden. Can you also begin to think about the design for a safety sign? Why does it need to grab the attention of the reader? How does a safety sign convey authority at a glance?

Monday 29th June

Welcome to another week Year 5! I hope that you have all had a lovely weekend and are looking forward to this week- I certainly am! Please click here for the French games for this week and here for the PSHE link. Don't forget to choose an activity from the topic web, which can be found above.

Welcome to Thursday everyone! Please click here for the French games for this week and here for the PSHE link. Maths for today is adding decimals with a different number of decimal places. Please click here for the link to the video and find the worksheet below.

English for today is to have a go at writing a narrative, related to space, that includes dialogue. The example (found below) that I have used, is taken from the Star Wars films. (I hope that you know more about these than me!) I thought that you could use your knowledge of these films as inspiration for your narratives. However, the beauty of writing a narrative, is that you can use inspiration from anywhere and magpie ideas from anything! The only thing that I ask is that you include some dialogue, which is punctuated correctly. Don't forget, you can also use adverbials, relative clauses and expanded noun phrases to add detail to your writing and to help your reader create a vivid picture in their head. I can't wait to read your stories :-)

Friday 5th June

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you have all had a great first week back and have managed to complete some learning every day :-) I was very impressed with your roller coaster poems. I really did feel as though I was aboard some terrifying rides!

Please click here for the KS2 Friday theme which is all about celebrating difference :-)

Maths for today can be found below. There are two tasks if you have the time to complete both. Task 1 is a short arithmetic test, please only allow yourself 20 minutes at the most to complete this.

Task 2 is to complete the Ultimate Times Table Challenge. For this, you have a 10 minute timer. The goal is to complete as many questions as possible within the 10 minutes. If you finish before the 10 minutes is finished, then write your time at the top of your sheet. I will set the same challenge next week and the aim is that you beat your score and/or your time. So, if you practise throughout the week next week, then I know that you will beat your score or your time!

Maths today is using fractions as operators- it sounds complicated, but it just means using them as an operation (like an add/subtract/multiply/division) Please click here for the video and find your worksheet below.

For English today, there are two activities. The first one is to write your own poem about a roller coaster ride :-) You can decide what type of poetry to write, but I would like you to use similes and metaphors and comparisons as to how it would feel on the ride, to help the reader visualise it in their head. Please see the poem below for ideas and click here to see some examples of similes and metaphors within poetry.

The second activity is a grammar quiz about nouns. Click here for a video to remind you about nouns and then find the link to the quiz below.

Thursday's Maths and English Sheets and Links

Wednesday 3rd June

,Happy Wednesday everyone! Please find the link to the PSHE video for this week here. Find the link to the French games here - all about naming items of clothes.

Maths today is finding fractions of amounts. Please click here for the video and please find your worksheet below.

English for today is to collect ideas and vocabulary for a poem of your own, called 'The Ride'. What would you like to write about? What kinds of words could you choose? What similes/metaphors/comparisons could you use to get your feelings and emotions across? Tomorrow, you will be writing the poem, so today is a time to gather ideas and give things a try :-) Have a go at making some words rhyme and have a think about the type of poem you would like to write, eg. shape poetry or concrete poetry- think about the shape of the ride :-)

Tuesday 2nd June

Maths today is multiplying mixed numbers by whole numbers. Please click here for the video and the worksheet (with the purple background) is below. To save confusion, if you find this sheet too difficult, then please let me know and I will give you another sheet to complete :-)

English for today is to read the poem attached below. Can you describe how the words and the structure of the poem reflects the feelings and sensation that you might have when riding a roller coaster? Practise reading the poem out loud and putting actions to it. Try to think about the pitch, speed and volume of your performance. Please send me what you have done on Dojo. I can't wait to see what you come up with! :-)

Monday 1st June

Maths today is multiplying fractions by whole numbers. Please click here for the video and the worksheet (with the purple background) is below. There is a video here that might help.

If you normally work with Mrs Ledger or Miss Simpson in Maths, then your Maths is showing tenths as decimals. Please click here for the video and your worksheet (with the orange background) is below.

English for today is to practise your new spellings. Can you find out what happens what you add the prefix 'over' to a word? Can you research other prefixes and find out how they effect the meaning of the word? Or can you find out when to double the consonant? Choose one set or the other :-) Of course, you can do both, if you want :-)

English for today is to create your own limerick or Kenning style of poem, using your ideas from today. If you have already done this, can you create a different form of poetry? It may be a calligram or a free verse poem or a performance poem.I have included some links to videos/websites below if you want to have a look. A calligram is a poem in a shape. Can you choose a minibeast and think about rhyming couplets that you could use to describe this minibeast in a limerick and/or think about a Kenning's style description of your minibeast- thinking about a two-word phrase that may act like a metaphor. You will be writing your poems tomorrow, so take today to have a play with a range of minibeasts and creating limericks/Kennings poems for them :-) If you have already done this, have a go at using relative clauses in sentences. Remember that relative clauses begin with a relative pronoun (who, which, that, whose). Your sentences can be about anything!

In Topic, I would like you to complete a minibeast hunt in your back garden. I know that some of you have already done this as part of the last topic, but this time, I would like you to create a map, showing the route that you have taken or took and a key showing where you found the minibeasts. If you have already completed the hunt, you could just recap on focus on creating the map or you could do it again- you never know what you might find! :-)

The Easter project links to our next topic which is 'Beast Creator.' There are some ideas that you could do to prepare for our next topic- I am looking forward to seeing what you can do over the Easter holidays :-)

Below that is some information about Easter, as we would be discussing the Easter story if we were in school. This is extra, so I would rather you focus on the Easter project related to Beast Creator, if you only have time to do one :-)

Easter Project- Beast Creator

Recap the story of Easter by watching this video or by doing your own research. Can you think about how the people in the story were feeling? I will post on this page the daily learning activities that will be set. Please look on here every day from Monday to see the activities :-)

Friday 3rd April- Well done to everyone for all of the activities that I have been sent this week. They have really made me smile- thank you!

Today's task is to consider what you think the world will be like in 2120- 100 years from now. Start by finding out what life was like 100 years age before now (1910), then compare that to life today and then think about what life could be like in 100 years. What will be the same? What will be different? To get you started, here is some information about what life was like for children in the 1900s.

You can present your learning in any way that you want to- you could create a collage, you could draw comparisons, you could do some writing. You may even want to do a diary entry from each time period. It is completely up to you- I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Thursday 2nd April- I hope that everyone had a good day and didn't have too many jokes played on them!

I apologise for not uploading a topic learning task yesterday- I was in school and the time ran away with me!

Today's learning task is to watch this animationTalk about the story you have seen with an adult. Pretend that you are the man in the video or a member of his family. Can you write a recount of your life? Or you could record a video as a presentation? I look forward to seeing your ideas on Dojo.

Science- Ask other members of your family to take part in this experiment- the question is... Do we get slower as we get older?

Take part in a number of activities- run a small distance and compare times, try to catch a falling object from the same height, perform star jumps for a minute- take your heart rates before the exercise and after- what is the difference? Think about what other activities you could do within this experiment- what ideas have you got? Send me the evidence on Dojo- I can't wait to see your investigations! Don't forget to record your results and send them to me :-)

DU- Fractions 2-4-20

Wednesday 1st April- Today is traditionally April Fools Day. Follow the link below to find out about the origin of it. Once you have visited the website, can you find some way to present what you have found out?

Tuesday 31st March- Good morning everyone! I apologise that I haven't been on Dojo, there has been a technical issue and it won't load on my laptop. I am trying again this morning and I hope the issue has been resolved.

Today, I have uploaded some videos about adding and subtracting fractions. There is also a sheet to go with it- have a go!

Math Antics - Mixed Numbers

This video shows you how to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers.

Thank you to everyone for your support during a very strange and uncertain week. I am very impressed with all the tasks that the children have been completing and I am glad to see a range of activities. Please try to enjoy as much family time as possible and make sure that you make the most of the weather, when it is nice and sunny :-)

Monday 30th March- I hope that everyone has had a lovely weekend. Please look out for contact from me again this week :-)

Don't forget to still do some active activities every day :-) Try and have a go at helping out around the house or play some board games/build some lego creations - I would love to see what you have been up to :-)

Keep up your Maths learning by using Times Tables Rockstars and the Maths Shed from the EdShed website (logins were sent over Dojo last week).

Have a great day everyone and I look forward to seeing what you are getting up to

Can you research one of these people and find out why they are famous?

Friday 27th March- Happy Friday everyone! I hope that you are all enjoying the weather, it is beautiful again here today!

Here are some learning tasks that you could do :-)

Can you have a go?!

Life Cycles- watch the Powerpoint and then have a go at the sheet- or you can record your learning in a different way! Be creative!

Thursday 26th March- I am in school all day today and so please bear with me in terms of replying to messages and being able to post at all times during the school day. Please expect a phone call from me either today or tomorrow :-)

Activities for today- Please try to log on to either Bug Club, Times Tables Rockstars or the Spelling/Maths Shed website. I am very impressed with the fact that the children are accessing these and enjoying these activities. Well done everyone!

Maths- please continue with the booklets or the learning packs- I am hoping to upload a video about fractions later today, which will help you to complete the fractions sheet that I will set tomorrow.

English- think about your favourite book. If you could make it into a film, who would you cast in the role? If it has already been made into a film, what actors would you like to see in the film? Can you create a promotional poster for the film?

Please see below the links to some topic learning. Thank you and I hope you all have a lovely day :-)

Wednesday 25th March

Throughout the day today, please look out for an individual url (linked to Dojo) that will take you to a QR code. If you scan this, it will allow your child to upload learning straight into Dojo and I think I can interact with it much easier. Please let me know if you experience any problems.

Tasks for today- make the most of the nice weather! Create some artwork, write a poem, create a song or a rap, go outside and create a new game or take part in a treasure hunt.

Please spend some time on Times Tables Rockstars- can you beat your score from yesterday?

Tuesday 24th March- It is not an expectation that your child will do all of the activities that are posted here, but I am trying to provide more than you will need. Please pick and choose what you would like to do, but enjoy family time as well. Please feel free to let me know about any life-skills that you and your child are doing, eg. cooking, sewing, helping around the house etc. At this unprecedented time, anything that your child does is amazing!

Also, I apologise, as I didn't upload the answer booklets for yesterday. Please check under the booklet attachment, as I will be uploading these today.

Please join in with The Body Coach (Joe Wicks) at 9am this morning (I think it is called PE with Joe.)

Maths- Either continue with the multiplication and division booklet or complete a task from the addition and subtraction booklet.

Reading- Read something that interests you and write in your planner or do some reading on Bug Club. Please let me know if there is a problem with your login.

English- Write a paragraph about anything that you want, but try to include adjectives, adverbs and brackets.
