Year 5

Welcome to Year 5's class page :-)

The staff working in Year 5 are: Mrs Daysh (myself and class teacher), Mr Gombos (everyday) and Mrs Potts (all day Tuesday and Wednesday).

On this page, we will be sharing learning that takes place and there may be further information that you need to know and also links to websites that may help and support the learning that is taking place.

I know that we are going to have a fantastic year together and I am very impressed with the attitude of all the children in the class. Well done for a fantastic start Year 5 and keep it up! :-)

Alchemy Island Newsletter June 2017

Scream Machine Newsletter April 2017

Our last topic of the year is 'Alchemy Island.' This topic takes us through magical portals to fantasy lands. We will investigate the properties of materials and how they change state. We will create our own Alchemy Island and music to represent the atmosphere of the world.

We will create our own magazine and write articles to be included.

Happy final half term in Year 5 everyone!

Our topic this half term is 'Scream Machine.' This topic focuses on forces and mechanisms needed in order for theme park rides to work. We will also be looking at the workforce that it takes in order to ensure theme parks run smoothly and consider how important it is to be part of a community.

Please join us in the final week of this half term, where the children will be sharing their learning and some working theme park rides (hopefully!). I will confirm a date as soon as possible. We are trying to confirm a date for a trip, which may also be in this last week and so as soon as this is confirmed, I will confirm other dates.

Last half term, we had a big push on presentation and I am impressed with the improvement in the majority of children's books. Well done everyone!

Allotment Newsletter February 2017

Firstly, I would like to thank all the parents/carers who were able to join us during our maths drop-in sessions and those who were able to join us to celebrate the children's learning over the last half term. The children are very proud of their books (rightly so) and they show the fantastic amount of learning that the children do and the amount of effort that they put in. Well done everyone!

Our topic this half term is 'Allotment.' We will be planting and growing our own vegetables and plants. We will be looking at plant and animal reproduction cycles. During the first week of the topic, we will be tasting fruit, vegetables and herbs, but a letter/text will go out, informing you further.

This half term, we are having a huge push on presentation and beautiful, joined handwriting. We want our books to be amazing and I know that they will be!

Contact Us

Please use this form to contact us if you have any non-urgent questions or concerns or are unable to contact your child's class teacher in person/by phone. This e-mail is checked by the school Senior Leadership Team and responses will be made within 48 hours.

Our topic this half term is 'Stargazers' and not 'Time Traveller' (sorry, my mistake on the newsletter!)

We will be exploring space and the universe and the differences between all the planets. We will also be looking at the moon phases and why we have day and night.

We launched our topic with an amazing trip to the National Space Centre. The children had an amazing time and they were such a credit to us all. Well done everyone!

This half term will include some drop-in sessions, where parents and carers will be invited to attend maths lessons and we will also be holding some safety days later in the term, where children will learn how to stay safe online and in other areas.

All the children have made a brilliant start back after Christmas and I know that they will continue to complete fantastic learning throughout this term. Well done everyone!

Stargazers Newsletter January 2017

Our topic for Autumn 2 is 'Time Traveller'.

In this topic, we will be looking at how life, places and people change over time. We will be talking lots about families and how these all look different and again how they can change over time. In light of this, please chat with the children about their lives and your family. Also, it would be appreciated if you could send in any photos that you have of your family, as we will be doing some learning based around these. (Please send in a digital copy if you need to or email the photos to the school office). Thank you for your support in advance :-)

Our class book is Gangsta Granny and we will be watching excerpts from 'Mr Peabody and Sherman.'

Time Traveller Newsletter Autumn 2 2016

Our topic this half term is Pharaohs, where we will be exploring Ancient Egypt and how their decisions and creations have an influence on modern society.

Our class book is 'The Red Pyramid' and it is so exciting! I can't wait to read more and find out what happens to Carter and Sadie! (I know I am not the only one!)
