What we are learning

Well done to everyone for being fantastic when we visited Derby Museum. The children learned lots of information about WW2 and I know that they are excited to include some of this in their writing for the book.

Week beginning 18th September- You will need your PE kit on Monday and Tuesday :-) We will be having a go at a Y6 standard Reading test this week too. You can do it everyone!

English- This week, we will be visited by Global Words, who will talk to us about how to develop a narrative. We will also be looking at a number of grammatical terms and how we can use these within our writing.

Maths- We will be rounding numbers up to 10,000,000 to the nearest 10, 100, 1000 and 1,000,000. We will also be using our problem solving and reasoning skills.

Topic- We will look at how and why the war started and what life was like once the war had begun.

Please remember that home-learning needs to be handed in on Wednesday.

Spellings to be tested Thursday 21st September

Well done for a fantastic start back! Everyone was brilliant last week and this showed in the amazing maths test scores that they achieved. Myself and Mrs Ferry were very impressed!

Week beginning- 11-9-17-  Our trip to Derby Museum is on Thursday. Please send your slip back, if you have not already. On Tuesday, we will be visited by Globalwords, who are going to work with the children, looking at how to develop characters, to set the ball rolling for our narratives for our book. Exciting times ahead!

Maths- We will be investigating place value in numbers, including millions and solving problems with numbers that have up to 7 digits

English- We will begin reading 'Goodnight Mr Tom' and focusing on our grammar skills (terminology). In Reading, we will be discussing vocabulary and how we can work out meaning.

Topic- We will begin to think about how evacuees felt and we will create a timeline of the important events of WW2.
