What we are learning

Week beginning 22nd January 2018

English - This week we will be writing our own version of the story 'Beegu'.

 

Maths - We will be looking at the place value of teen numbers and identifying one more and one less.

 

Phonics - We will learning how to spell /f/ as ph, /or/ as au, /oo/ as ew and /ee/ as ey. The common exception word is 'there'.

 

Topic - This week is our trip to the Space Centre! We will also be making paper mache planets - please bring in any spare newpapers you have! We will also be locating our school on a simple map.

Week beginning 15th January 2018

English - This week we will be reading the story of Beegu, inferring feelings and writing a character description.

 

Maths - We will be recapping reading and drawing o'clock and moving onto half past.

 

Phonics - We will learning how to spell /ee/ as ea, /or/ as aw and /wh/. 

 

Topic - This week we will be making Beegu out of clay and learning about Neil Armstrong.

Week beginning 8th January 2018

Welcome back! We hope you have had a fantastic break and that Santa was very kind to you.

 

English - This week we will be writing missing posters and a recount.

 

Maths - This week we will be making our own clock and starting to understand time. Please practise this at home with us!

 

Phonics - We will be recapping sounds we have already taught.

 

Topic - This week we will be making our own junk model rockets!

Week beginning 18th December 2017

This week we will be doing a range of Christmas crafts and activities in our class. We will be reading a range of Christmas stories in the run up to our holidays! 

 

Please note that spellings for over half term will be to recap any spellings that the children have been learning in previous weeks. Please choose a range of words you think will be appropriate for your child to practise. 

 

A range of activities have been planned in school for the children this week:

Tuesday - Year 1 will be participating in the Christmas experience at St. Barnabus Church.

Wednesday - The carol service will be held at St. Barnabus church @ 2pm if any parents would like to come along.

Thursday - Christmas Disco day! 

Friday - Inset day.

Week beginning 11th December 2017

 

English - This week we will be writing our own version of the story 'Katie's London Christmas.'

 

Maths - This week we will be learning about the place value of teen numbers.

 

Phonics - We will be beginning to learn the digraphs /ay/, /ie/, /oe/ and /ue/.  We will also learn the tricky word 'today'.

 

Topic - This week we will be completing our Big Ben models and covering the fast sessions of coding using the Bee-bots. 

Week beginning 4th December 2017

 

English - This week we will be writing a recount about the Queen's visit. 

 

Maths - This week we are consolidating our knowledge of addition and subtraction within 10. 

 

Phonics - We will be beginning to learn the digraphs /qu/, /air/, /ear/ and /ure/.  We will also learn the tricky word 'today'.

 

Topic - This week we will practising our nativity! Remember our nativity is at 2pm and 4pm on the 7th December. 

Week beginning 27th November 2017

 

English - This week we will writing an invitation to the Queen and writing instructions!

 

Maths - This week we are returning to addition and subtraction within number bonds to 10.

 

Phonics - We will be beginning to learn the digraphs /oi/, /oy/, /ou/ and /ow/.  We will also learn the tricky word 'there'.

 

Topic - This week we will be building models of Big Ben out of cardboard boxes using paper mache and paint and practising our nativity!

Week beginning 20th November 2017

 

English - This week we will be writing our own version of the poem 'London's Burning' and focusing on adding 'ing' to the end of verbs for our grammar session on Friday. 

 

Maths - This week we are focusing on 2D shapes including all shapes up to octagons! Phew! 

 

Phonics - We will be beginning to learn the digraphs /or/ /ur/ and /er/. We will also learn the tricky word 'they'. 

 

Topic - This week we will be building models of Big Ben out of cardboard boxes using paper mache and paint! How exciting :) 

Week beginning 13th November 2017

 

English - This week we will be writing a story about an adventure in London.

 

Maths - We are amazing at number bonds! We are going to focus on subtraction and then try and learn all 4 sums.

 

Phonics - We will be beginning to learn the digraphs /oo/ and /ar/. We will also learn the tricky word 'was'. 

 

Topic - This week we will be learning about the different capital cities within the United Kingdom.

Week beginning 6th November 2017

 

English - This week we will be writing a postcard from London.

 

Maths - We will be learning our number bonds to 10. Please practise at home!

 

Phonics - We will be beginning to learn the split digraphs o_e and u_e. We are also learning the common exception word 'your'.

 

Topic - This week we will be looking at different buildings in Pleasley.

Week beginning 31st October

English - This week we will be writing a diary entry about the Great Fire of London.

 

Maths - We will be learning our number bonds to 5.

 

Phonics - We will be continuing to learn the split digraphs a_e and i_e. We are also learning the common exception word 'you'.

 

Topic - This week we will be making bonfire art.

Week beginning 16th October

This week is our Museum!

 

English - This week we will be writing animal riddles.

 

Maths - We will be continuing with addition using the part, part,whole model and the bar model.

 

Phonics - We will be introducing split digraphs a_e and i_e. We are also learning the common exception word 'you'.

 

Topic - This week we will be getting reading for our Museum day next week. We are making coins and bows and arrows. 

Week beginning 9th October

This week we are going to Sherwood Forest! Remember to wear your own clothes and prepare for any mud! We will also be joined by a student teacher, Miss Hammond, this week. She will be with us for a week and then returning after half term!

 

English - This week we will be writing an information text about Robin Hood. We will be focussing on capital letters and full stops.

 

Maths - We will be introducing the part, part, whole model and beginning to add.

 

Phonics - We will be recapping phase 3 sounds /ie/ and /ue/. We are also learning the common exception word 'she'.

 

Topic - This week we will be getting reading for our Museum day next week. We are making coins and bows and arrows. It is also our science day this week!

Week beginning 2nd October

English - This week we will be reading 'The Gruffalo'. We will be writing adjectives to describe him and writing a character description.

 

Maths - We will be focusing on the vocabulary greater than, less than and equal to.

 

Phonics - We will be recapping phase 3 sounds /igh/ and /oa/. We are also learning the common exception word 'he'.

 

Topic - This week we will be learning about woodland animals and their habitats. We will also be using the app 'PicCollage' to make a collage and drawing a woodland animal. We will also be visited by Reverend Caroline for a baptism!

Week beginning 25th September

English - This week we will be continuing to read 'Little Red Riding Hood'. We will be story mapping the story and writing a story.

 

Maths - We will be continuing to look at numbers to 10. We will be comparing the numbers and identify one more and one less and equal to.

 

Phonics - We will be recapping phase 3 sounds /ai/ and /ee/. We are also learning the common exception word 'go'.

 

Topic - This week we will be learning about the different seasons! We will be making a sculpture out of natural materials and learning about Andy Goldsworthy.

Week beginning 18th September

English - This week we will be reading 'Little Red Riding Hood'. We will be writing a character description about the wolf!

 

Maths - We will be continuing to look at numbers to 10. We will be comparing the numbers and identify one more and one less.

 

Phonics - We will be recapping phase 3 sounds /th/ and /ng/. We are also learning the common exception word 'to'.

 

Topic - This week we will be learning about deciduous and evergreen trees, identifying the structure of a plant and making tree boggarts!

Week beginning 11th September

English - This week we will be writing invitations, using our phonics to decode ingredients for our picnic and writing instructions for our sandwiches. 

 

Maths - We will be focusing on numbers to 10. We will be ordering these numbers, writing them in numerals and words and showing them in a variety of ways.

 

Phonics - We will be recapping phase 3 sounds /ch/ and /sh/. We are also learning the common exception word 'the'.

 

Topic - This week we are having a woodland picnic. We will be making woodland animal hats, making sandwiches and having our picnic!
