Week Commencing 10.12.18

PE Days - Tuesday with Gordan and Wednesday with Miss Conneely

English - This week, we are having a spelling, punctuation and grammar blast to support our writing skills before the Christmas break!

Spellings:

bottle, handle, candle, rectangle, possible

Maths - We are learning how to formally subtract 3 digit numbers.

Topic - This week we are learning how to code to support our Greek army battle formations.

Week Commencing 3.12.18

PE Days - Tuesday with Gordan and Wednesday with Miss Conneely

English - This week, we are writing newspaper reports about the discovery of Pandora's Box with reported speech.

Spellings:

thumb, lamb, climb, knife and knock (silent k & b - old English origins)

Maths - We are learning how to formally subtract 3 digit numbers,

Topic - This week we will research and learn about famous Ancient Greeks such as Aristotle, Plato and Archimedes. We are also comparing Ancient Greece to Modern day.

Week Commencing 26.11.18

PE Days - Tuesday with Gordan and Wednesday with Miss Conneely

English - This week, we are learning how to use a variety of prepositions in preparation for writing our trip advisor review for visiting the Minotaur's maze!

Spellings:

decide, exercise, cell, century and concert. (Soft ‘c’ that sounds like ‘s’ when spelt ce, ci, cy)

Maths - We are recapping and learning how to mentally subtract 2 digit numbers in preparation for moving onto 3 digit formal subtraction.

Topic - This week will have an art based focus as we research Ancient Greek tiles and design our own based on the story of Theseus and the Minotaur.

Week Commencing 19.11.18

PE Days - Tuesday with Gordan and Wednesday with Miss Conneely

English - This week, we are learning about Adventure stories in preparation for creating our own stories with mythical beast encounters! Our grammar focus will be subordinate clauses and conjunctions.

Spellings:

accidental, special, usual, capital, pedal

Maths - We are learning how to add 3 digit numbers using column addition and bar modelling. This week we are learning how to carry over from the ones and tens columns.

Topic - We will focus this week on learning about everyday life for the Ancient Greeks.

Week Commencing 12.11.18

PE Days - Tuesday with Gordan and Wednesday with Miss Conneely

English - This week, we are learning about the story sad of Icarus and Daedalus! From this story we are learning how to write a diary entry with linking adverbs.

Spellings:

altogether, small, almost, rainfall, always

Maths - We are learning how to add 3 digit numbers using column addition and bar modelling.

Topic - This week we are learning about the famously known Gods and Goddesses while also conducting a science investigation on wings for Icarus that would not melt.

On Wednesday 14th November, we have Partake Theatre coming to school to help us learn about Jason and The Argonauts!

Week Commencing 5.11.18

PE Days - Tuesday with Gordan and Wednesday with Miss Conneely

English - This week, we are unpicking the different characteristics of poetry while planning to write our own about a mythical creature.
We are concentrating on the use of rhyme while also including powerful similes and metaphors.

Spellings:

This week the children will be tested on 10 random spellings that they already learnt last term.
New Y3 spellings will be handed out on Friday.

Maths - We are learning how to add and subtract 2 digit numbers both mentally and formally.

Topic - We are now starting our topic of Gods and Mortals! This week we are concentrating on locating Greece on a map while researching what Ancient Greece looked like to the mortals in comparison to today.

## On Thursday 4th October, we received an urgent letter informing us that there were artefacts buried within our school grounds! Together as a class, we dug for the artefacts and discussed what they could be!

Week Commencing 1.10.18

PE Days - Tuesday with Gordan and Ballet on Wednesday

English - This week, we are recapping the different types of nouns to help teach us what words require capital letters and which don't!

Spellings:

mountain, around, found, house, ground

These will be tested on Thursday 4th September.

Maths - We are learning how to write 3 digit numbers up to 10 in both numerals and words.

Topic - We move onto the Bronze Age now in topic where this week we will research their discovery of metal, Stonehenge and The Amesbury Archer!

Week Commencing 24.9.18

PE Days - Tuesday with Gordan and Ballet on Wednesday

English - This week, we are continuing to write our exciting stories featuring woolly mammoths, sabre tooth tigers and Ronaldo (for many!). Our grammar focus will be fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases.

Spellings:

replace, pavement, mate, fate, plate

These will be tested on Thursday 27th September.

Maths - We are learning how to find 10 and 100 more or less than any given number.

Topic - Geography will play a large part of our learning this week as we search for the best settlements for our hunter- gatherer families. As well as this, we will create our own hunting headdresses and learn all about the roles of archaeologists!

Week Commencing 17.9.18

PE Days - Tuesday with Gordan and Ballet on Wednesday

English - This week, we are preparing to write an exciting story with a

super Stone Age related twist! Our grammar focus will be fronted adverbials.

Spellings:

birthday, runway, mailbox, drain, complain

These will be tested on Thursday 20th September.

Maths - We are learning to recognise the place value of three digit numbers this week using Base 10, pictures and problem solving questions.

Topic - We continue to learn all about the lives of Hunter - gatherers this week with lessons focussing on diet and tools. Hopefully we will learn to make tools ourselves using materials from the environment around school!

## Week Commencing 10.9.18

PE days - Tuesday and Wednesday

English - This week we are writing exciting setting descriptions of Creswell crags with a grammar focus of expanded noun phrases.

SPELLINGS - Recapping ai/ay

These will be given out on Friday 14th Sept and will be tested on Thursday 20th Sept.

Maths - We are learning how to count in 50s and 100s this week using both practical resources and abstract methods. We are revising the 5x table to support our learning this week.

Topic - We will learn about the three main periods of The Stone Age, create our own Neolithic Art (Cave paintings!) and continue our research into The Stone Age lifestyle.

Top
